Villanova’s Wright one of most overrated, according to CBS story

In a poll conducted by Gary Parrish of CBS Sports, Villanova’s Jay Wright has been voted as the fifth-most overrated coach in the country by nearly 100 coaches who were questioned anonymously.

Anonymous polls have to be taken somewhat with a grain of salt because you don’t know the motivation for the voting. But it was surprising to see Wright on the list, especially considering the success he has had.

The most astonishing part of the story wasn’t that Wright made the list, but the following quote from an unnamed rival coach:

On Jay Wright: “I’ll tell you this about Villanova and Jay Wright. In all our prep over the years, he’s the only coach we never prepared a scouting report for.”

  1. I’d tend to agree to an extent. Has never (to my knowledge) been successful with a team lacking talent or a superstar. I wonder if this is the year for Jay to put up or go to the NBA.
