Temple senior guard Khalif Wyatt has been named the Philahoops Preseason Player of the Year, Philahoops editor Aaron Bracy announced today.
Wyatt is coming off a season in which he averaged 17.1 points, 3.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals while helping the Owls finish 24-8 overall and 13-3 in the Atlantic 10.
Joining Wyatt on Philahoops’ Preseason First Team are Saint Joseph’s C.J. Aiken and Langston Galloway, along with La Salle’s Ramon Galloway and Drexel’s Frantz Massenat.

AIKEN
Aiken, a junior forward, led the A-10 and ranked fifth in the country by averaging 3.53 blocks per game last season to go with 10.9 points and 5.1 rebounds. Langston Galloway, a junior guard, averaged 15.5 points and led the A-10 in 3-point shooting (46.6 percent).
Ramon Galloway, a senior guard, averaged 14.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and was second in the A-10 in 3-point shooting (44.2 percent). Massenat, a junior guard, helped the Dragons reach 29 wins last season, by contributing 13.7 points, 4.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds.

MARTELLI
Saint Joseph’s coach Phil Martelli has been named Preseason Coach of the Year, and Villanova’s Tony Chennault has been elected as Newcomer of the Year. Entering his 18th season, Martelli returns everyone from his seven-man rotation last season that finished 20-14 overall and 9-7 in the A-10. Chennault, a junior transfer from Wake Forest, averaged 9.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Demon Deacons last season.

What the heck does it mean to be the Big 5 Pre-Season Coach of the Year? What did you take into consideration in choosing Martelli? Truly bizarre.
Really no different than choosing a preseason player of year or newcomer of year. It’s the coach who I think will lead his team to the best season. Bruiser Flint was our pick at the end of last year for what he did with Drexel. Picking Martelli to do the same with St. Joe’s this year.
