ESPN has continued to release their rankings for the best programs in the past 50 years, ranking Temple at #18 today. Utilizing their system, explained here, Eammon Brennan explains that Temple earned 307 points.
Between 1984-2001, the Owls have reached the NCAA tournament each year except 1989. That run includes five appearances in the Elite Eight, all under John Chaney, who was named “50 in 50″ coach for Temple.

Brennan continues to say that Temple is the highest ranked team to never make a Final Four appearance and they have also not produced a consensus All-American.
The five players on the “All-Team” begins with Mark Macon (1987-91), who led the Owls to a 32-2 record in 1987-88, securing a one-seed in the tournament.
He was joined by Pepe Sanchez, John Baum, Eddie Jones, and current Philadelphia 76ers center and recent graduate Lavoy Allen. Former 76ers guard and 2001 NBA “Sixth Man of the Year” winner Aaron McKie was named a “top option off the bench.”
Yesterday, Pennsylvania was named #22 and before that, St. Joseph’s was named #40.
Stay tuned to see if Villanova becomes ranked.
